A palomino quarter horse gelding had shed off his winter coat. His darkened coat is often referred to as a sooty or smutty palomino. In good flesh and shiny, this older gelding has certainly wintered well on the plains of eastern Montana.

My husband and I raise appaloosa horses and angus cattle on the Plains of Eastern Montana.
